one minute blog: my 2025 plan

check this out and lmk what you think

This is the One Minute Blog (OMB). An email of good stuff for you to think about over the weekend, that takes a minute to read.

Today’s word count: 511.

New Years.

I’m not a new year's resolutions guy. Too many broken promises.

I’m like a toxic ex-boyfriend. Every Jan 1, I come back around, with big promises, but my brain screams: “Don’t believe him!! He’s a liar!! He’s just going to hurt you again!!”

Well, this year, I have a new method - thanks to my friend Jesse Itzler

As Jesse says: “If you do these 5 things I’m about to tell you…when you see me in an airport or coffee shop next year, you’re going to want to bear hug me to say thanks.”

Btw - Jesse is a badass. He helped build Zico Coconut Water. He sold a private jet company to Warren Buffett. He was a white-boy rapper. He owns a piece of an NBA team. He’s got 4 kids. He lived with David Goggins for 30 days.

He’s what the French call: “muy bueno”.

And he’s busier than you. So you have no excuse.

OK - so here’s Jesse’s annual planning method:

STEP 1 – GET LIGHT

Before going into 2025, he cuts all baggage from 2024…

  • Clean out closet

  • Clean desk

  • Archive all emails

  • Unsubscribe to subscriptions

STEP 2 – GIVE THANKS

  • He handwrites 100s of ‘thank you’ letters to anyone who made an impact on him that year

  • It feels great to remember the best moments of the year, and to say thank you

STEP 3 – FIND THE GAP

Everyone wants a 10 outta 10 life…

Is yours currently 10 outta 10? Most likely not, so where’s the gap?

Put your whole life into a giant blender. Your work, your relationships, your health, your fun, your friends, etc.. mix it up… which ingredient is lacking?

Once you spot it, you can fix it. It won’t just magically get better. You make it better.

For me, I’m a 8.5 outta 10 right now.

The gap is in my fitness (I still eat junk and snack too much, not proud of that area). I also don’t feel I’m totally living up to my potential as a creator.

STEP 4 - PICK A MISOGI

Pick a grand mission for the year. A year defining thing.

“Oh 2025? That year was awesome. That’s the year I did ______”

For me, I’m making this the year I learned the skill of making music.

I’m learning the piano and have a tutor teaching me how kids make music on their laptops nowadays.

Music brings me joy - and so it’s like learning how to ‘cook’. This is a skill I’ll have for the rest of my life.

STEP 5 - SCHEDULE IT

Instead of a resolution (a hope, a dream) - just schedule events you really wanna do on your calendar now.

If you don’t block out time now, your year will just fill up with routine meetings, errands, and life stuff.

Things I put on my calendar already:

  • Basketball camp with MrBeast (January)

  • Figure out a community service/”give back” thing I can do with my kids (February)

  • Take kids to Disneyland (April)

  • Do the Murph fitness challenge with friends (May)

  • Hawaii trip with fam (September)

Alright, that’s one minute. Now go do it!

P.S. - I did an episode with Jesse where he breaks everything down, step-by-step.

P.P.S. - If you’ve got ideas for great adventures or experiences, send them my way!

Let me tell you about one of my favorite quotes:

“Never write an advertisement which you wouldn't want your own family to read. The consumer isn’t a moron, she’s your wife. You wouldn't tell lies to your own wife. Don't tell them to mine.”

- David Ogilvy (the Father of Advertising)

To me, you’re family. So I wouldn’t lie to you either.

And when it comes to my banking** services, I use Mercury.

I use it for my personal account. My business accounts. Everything. In total, I have 6+ accounts with them.

That’s why I’m confident in recommending it, because I know it works and I know what it does.

**Mercury is a financial technology company, not a bank. Banking services provided by Choice Financial Group, Column N.A., and Evolve Bank & Trust®; Members FDIC.
