This is a smart point. “Why not sooner” feels annoying, and impatient. But not if you take it literally. “Why not sooner” as in… what is limiting us from making this happen sooner (find the bottleneck) and perhaps you can eliminate it 20% of the time. 

Another great hack I learned working with the CEO of Twitch. He never asked for timelines (“when will you have this done by?”) which caused panic/stress and imprecise answers. 

Instead he asked: “if it took longer than ____ would you be surprised?”. That finds the ceiling of the time estimate. Then you push for the floor (“what timeline is possible, even tho it’s going to take a lot of things going right?”)
